Cool Download - UNICEF Canister Wrapper

Hey there CKI!

I hope everyone has had a safe and happy new year so far! I can't believe 2009 is already here! ah!

A great way to start the semester off on the right foot is to create UNICEF canisters at your first club meeting. District Governor John Cano of the Texas-Oklahoma District has created an awesome Canister Wrapper that can be downloaded here. It's an awesome fellowship activity to decorate cans with glitter and glue so have some fun and decorate cans this semester.

CKI members are challenging one another to raise money for the Six Cents Initiative.

If so, check out the UNICEF Six Cents Initiative page to form a team, join an existing one, or sign up as an individual participant. All money raised will help provide clean drinking water to children all over the world. The link to sign up: http://www.unicefusa.org/sixcentsonline

CKI’s Six Cents Initiative with UNICEF is designed to help children get the rehydrating salts they need to survive dehydration spells. But that’s not all. With the money raised, UNICEF also is working to provide long-term solutions for the problem, which includes providing clean water resources through the installation of filtration and sanitation systems. Water filters installed in schools and communal areas can benefit entire communities. Ultimately, the goal is to educate individuals on safe water and hygiene practices, and to provide supplies to produce safe water supplies for communities.

The CKI dues paid member that fundraises the most money on Six Cents Online will receive a FREE International Convention Registration for Birmingham, Alabama 2009!

The goal is to raise more than US$32,025 for the Six Cents Initiative by the end of the 2009 CKI convention. Why $32,025? Because that symbolizes every club raising $61 to buy a family in need a water filter.

George Washington University CKI

Greetings CKI!

To the right you will see a window decoration by the Circle K Club at the George Washington University in Washington, D.C. promoting the Six Cents Initiative. Pretty cool huh?! I was very lucky to have the opportunity to visit GWUCK last April and can attest first hand that they are one remarkable Circle K club -- this is just icing on the cake!

UNICEF Tips for Winter Weather

Greetings from Potsdam, NY!

Many of us in the North East have been hit with some interesting patterns of winter weather storms today. With Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF quickly approaching I wanted to stop by and give clubs a few alternative ways to collect money for UNICEF if your plans to go door to door are canceled because of snow.

10 ways to fundraise for UNICEF with Winter Weather:

1. Bring your UNICEF box to class and ask for your classmates and professors to donate spare change.
2. Walk around your Student Union or Dining Court to ask for donations.
3. Get permission from your Residence Life staff to Trick-or-Treat in the Residence Halls.
4. Plan a dance with your college radio station and ask for donations to UNICEF at the door.
5. Work with Haunted House coordinators in your area to set up tables inside at the end of their Haunted Houses to ask for donations.
6. Coordinate a table at your local grocery store to ask for donations.
7. Sell bundles of Hershey Kisses in your student union to be delivered to students on Halloween.
   
8. Contact local Elementary Schools and ask them if you can write an article for their school bulletin to ask for donations and explain what UNICEF is.
9. Write a letter to other organizations on campus to ask them to collect happy change for you.
10. Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF in the snow but sing holiday carols (Let it Snow, Walking in a Winter Wonderland, etc...) for donations. Remember to bundle up!

Six Cents CAN Save a Life!

Dear Friends:

In order to stay healthy, it is important to drink 1.5 to 2 liters of clean water every day. We may think clean water is readily available, but not everyone enjoys such conveniences. More than 1 billion people do not have access to clean water. More than 2.6 billion people around the globe lack even the most basic sanitation facilities. That means one and five children in developing countries are susceptible to diseases caused by bacteria that grow in unsafe waters--and 5,000 die every day.

But there is hope!

As a Circle K member, I have joined CKI and the U.S. Fund for UNICEF's Six Cents Initiative. This initiative is designed to help children get the rehydrating salts they need to survive dehydration spells and to help UNICEF provide long-term solutions to achieve their goal to educate safe water and hygiene practices, and to provide supplies to produce safe water supplies for communities.
